What is The Indus Telegraph?
Launched in May 2002, The Indus Telegraph is a unique forum for Indo-philes everywhere. We feature articles and viewpoints relating to Southern Asia and the Indian Subcontinent from many diverse sources.
Our mission is to create a self-sustaining entity for the expression of culture, opinion, news, analysis, and ideas about and from Southern Asia.
The Indus Telegraph works on the principle of collaborative media, which means members not only contribute content but they also vote on what should make it to the front page. This site is a unique community powered by you, so please contribute and take part!
Why is your map of India upside down?
Actually, it's a map of the sub-continental region and to further explain (from University College London's Indology studies page):
In Sanskrit, the terms for the points of the compass --- pr?c?na (in front: East), pa'scima (behind: West), uttara (high: north), and dak.si.na (right: south) --- assume that the viewer is facing east.
This re-oriented map, then, suggests that we must be able to see things differently, to adopt a different world-view, if we wish to enter sympathetically into an understanding of ancient and medieval India.

The section links "Front Page ? News ? Opinion ? Interviews ? Analysis ? Reviews" show articles that are submitted within that section. The front page displays all articles that the are worthy of the front page. For example, the "Opinion" link will display articles that are submitted as opinion and filter out articles for other sections. This makes it convinient for those interested in only certain pieces.
